Ruby Williams

November 6, 1947 — July 28, 2023

Philadelphia

Ruby Williams was the daughter of Eugene and Hattie Mae Williams.  She was born on November 6, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Ruby was the only child born to this union. Unfortunately, her mother passed away when she was only four years of age.  It was then that her father became a single parent and raised Ruby until she turned 13 years old.  At that time her father met, fell in love and married Alberta C. Brown, who was already the mother of four children (Margaret, Morris, LaFern and Edward) from a prior union.

Ruby is preceded in death by: Eugene Williams (Father), Alberta C. Williams (Stepmother), LeFern G. Butts (Stepsister) and Morris O Brown (Stepbrother).

Ruby was educated throughout the public school system of Philadelphia. Ultimately, she studied and earned her GED diploma.

Ruby enjoyed cooking, had a great sense of humor, and was very independent. Furthermore, she loved attending gatherings such as parties and cook-outs.  And let’s not forget Atlantic City with their famous buffets and nickel slot machines. But her pride and joy was spending time with her family and friends. She shared her appreciation of Motown music with others.  Music brought Ruby a great deal of joy as well.  She was affectionately known as Miss Ruby and Mother Ruby.

Ruby was employed by Bayada Nurses as a Home Health Aide for many years.  She loved caring for others, did her job very well and patients loved her.  However, she was forced to retire from Bayada Nurses earlier than desired, because of an injury she sustained while caring for a patient.  In order to prevent her patient from being injured she placed herself in harm’s way.  This was the kind of character she embodied.

Ruby departed this life on the evening of July 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving daughter Stacey Marie and her son-in-law Sheldon, after a long battle with illness.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, her two children Stacey Marie Davids and Shawn Eugene Williams, along with her loving son-in-law Sheldon Davids and his Mother Marie Francis.   Her four grandchildren Marshawn Lee Williams, Kayla Harden, Kayra Harden (Predeceased) and Tiffany Young - all of Philadelphia.  Two siblings, Margaret L. Rogers and Edward Brown.  And lastly a host of nieces and nephews:  Nadine Holmes (Maurice), Rev. Angela Brown-Vann (David), Lenise Brown, Clarence M. Brown; one great-niece Ka’Lisa; three great-nephews, Justin, Preston and Nasir and a host of cousins and friends.

Her Home Health Aides, primarily Vetrina McFarlin and Daphne Blake, did a remarkable job with Mother Ruby’s care and they will be blessed for their dedication; along with the staff at Penn Medicine's Palliative Care as well as Penn Medicines At-Home Hospice Care program. Lastly Sheldon Davids her son-in-law performed the Yeomen's job of caring for his mother-in-law. GOD bless him.
